Content of the course:

Basic principles of modelling digital systems: Boolean algebras and functions, combinatorial and sequential circuits, derivation of a model computer and illustration of its functionality, introduction to the development of embedded systems (sensors, actuators, electrical peripherals, programming concepts),fields of application

The following course/module was developed at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

Learning outcomes / Competencies

The successful participation enables students to

  • describe and design the components of a computer based on combinatorial circuits 
  • design subcomponents self-dependently
  • master the integration of elements and processes of program execution in different model computers and assess the (dis-)advantages of different configurations
  • understand the realization of embedded systems within their respective applications from the circuit diagrams and derive the software-based implementation
  • design and realize simple, embedded systems
