The following course/module was developed at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

• Historical development of the oil and gas industry
• Drill hole construction
• Casing and cementing
• Drilling rig and its equipment
• Drill string elements, drill string design and strength verification
• Primary and secondary well control (basics)

Learning outcomes / Competencies:

The module is intended as an introduction to drilling technology in the specialisation ‘Deep Drilling Technology, Natural Gas and Oil Production’. Students are given an overview of the historical development of the oil and gas industry, the structure of a drilling rig and a typical borehole, as well as the necessary operations and basic principles for the safe drilling of a deep well. They are put in a position where they are able to survey and assess the many different aspects of a drilling project.
